Design & Inspiration

There are objects that do not merely occupy a room — they command it. This handcrafted lidded compote urn, faithfully inspired by the exuberance of Rococo and late-Victorian floral porcelain traditions, carries that rare quality. Perched upon a trumpet-form pedestal and crowned with a domed lid and cast finial, the piece projects a sense of ceremony and cultivated opulence. Its generous ovoid body seems to bloom outward, as though the painted bouquets of rose, chrysanthemum, and violet pressed against the ivory porcelain from within, demanding to be seen.

Materials & Craftsmanship

The body is fashioned from fine white porcelain, hand-painted in the grand tradition of European manufactory decoration — each floral spray rendered with botanical precision and chromatic depth across a creamy ivory ground. Encircling the waist is a gallery of pierced brass ormolu, its acanthus-scroll lattice cast and hand-chased to a warm lustre. Twin swan-neck handles in cast brass arch elegantly from either side, while the pedestal foot and base collar are enriched with further repousséd foliate mounts. The finial atop the domed lid echoes the period's love of architectural detail. Every brass element is finished by hand, lending the piece an organic vitality that mass production cannot replicate.

Dimensions & Details

Standing at an imposing height of 65 cm with a generous diameter of 45 cm and weighing 4 kg, this urn has the visual weight and physical presence to anchor a console table, a grand hallway, or a formal reception salon. The lidded form makes it equally functional as a display vessel. Delivered as 1 piece; minimal assembly of the pedestal may be required.

Handcrafted in Egypt

At Brass & Wood, every piece emerges from the hands of Egyptian master craftsmen who have devoted decades to the art of classical European decorative arts. This urn unites the ceramic painter's discipline with the metalsmith's precision — two ancient crafts practised side by side in our Cairo atelier. The result is a luxury decorative object that honours the European heritage it draws from while carrying the unmistakable mark of Egyptian artisanal excellence. Available with your choice of brass finish, and customisable upon request for bespoke commissions.
