Design Inspiration
Evoking the splendour of the Palace of Versailles, this pedestal column draws directly from the Sèvres porcelain tradition beloved by Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. The vivid celestial-turquoise ground — a hallmark of 18th-century French royal porcelain — frames three hand-painted oval medallions depicting elegant courtiers in playful Rococo dance, set against soft pastoral landscapes. Sweeping gold arabesques and delicate dot-gilding weave between the medallions, creating a surface of breathtaking richness.
Materials & Finish
The cylindrical shaft is crafted in fine porcelain, glazed in the iconic turquoise and decorated entirely by hand with ceramic paints and burnished gold. The capital is cast in solid brass with a hand-chased Corinthian acanthus leaf finish, plated in warm 24-carat gold. The base plinth mirrors the capital's opulence with scrolling foliate ormolu castings and four claw feet in gilded brass. The crowning top is a slab of genuine veined marble, cut and fitted to complete the architectural silhouette.
Craftsmanship
Every column is handcrafted in the Brass & Wood atelier in Egypt by artisans trained in classical European techniques. The porcelain painting alone requires multiple firings to achieve the luminous depth of colour and the fine gold detailing that defines this piece. Ormolu components are hand-finished and polished to a warm, even lustre that will deepen beautifully over time.
