Design & Inspiration

Few decorative objects command a room with the effortless authority of a true Rococo mirror. This piece — with its dramatic asymmetric silhouette, pierced scroll frame, and soaring ribbon-and-rosette crest — faithfully reproduces the exuberant spirit of mid-eighteenth-century French decorative arts. In the salons of Versailles and the grand hôtels particuliers of Paris, mirrors of exactly this character caught the candlelight and amplified the play of reflection and gilding across gilded boiserie walls. Brass & Wood brings that same theatrical brilliance into the contemporary home.

Materials & Craftsmanship

The frame is built on a Romanian solid redwood substrate (seasoned to below 10% humidity for dimensional stability) and finished with multiple layers of gesso before receiving its luminous gilded finish. The deeply undercut acanthus scrolls, pierced foliate cartouches, and cascading leaf clusters are hand-carved by artisans trained in the classical European tradition, each cut revealing the naturalistic energy that defines authentic Rococo ornament. The crowning crest — an open fretwork of interlaced ribbons anchored by a central rosette boss — rises above the oval plate in the manner of the great Parisian carvers. The mirror plate itself is clear bevelled glass, seated within the carved surround to maximise reflective depth.

Dimensions & Details

Weight: 4 kg. Dimensions are available on request for custom sizing. The portrait orientation and tall, organic silhouette make this mirror equally at home above a console table in an entrance hall, centred over a fireplace mantle in a formal salon, or serving as the focal point of a dressing room. A D-ring wall mount is integrated into the reverse for secure single-point hanging.

Handcrafted in Egypt

Every mirror in the Brass & Wood collection is handcrafted in Egypt by skilled artisans who have spent years mastering the carving, gilding, and finishing techniques of classical European furniture-making. We source our Romanian solid redwood for its straight grain and stability, apply genuine gesso grounds, and finish with a fine gilded layer that is hand-burnished to bring out the warmth of the relief work. The result is a luxury wall mirror that honours the legacy of Rococo design while being built to endure generations of daily admiration.
