Design & Inspiration
Certain objects announce their heritage the moment they enter a room. This decorative wall plate — faithfully reproduced in the tradition of the great Sèvres manufactory — carries the visual authority of eighteenth-century French court taste. The deep cobalt ground, scrolling gilt acanthus tendrils, and central bouquet of roses, tulips, and anemones are rendered with the precision of a miniature painting, set within a cast gilt brass frame crowned by a ribbon-and-bow crest and anchored below by a rose garland mount. Together they form not a plate, but a wall jewel.
Materials & Craftsmanship
The porcelain body draws directly from the visual language of Sèvres bleu de roi — the intense, saturated cobalt that became the signature ground colour of Louis XVI's royal manufactory in the 1770s. Against this ground, gilded scrollwork arabesques and a fan-shell cartouche at the crown are applied with the controlled hand of a trained decorator. The central medallion is painted with a loose, naturalistic bouquet in the Dutch floral tradition favoured at Sèvres: roses, peonies, tulips, daffodils, and wild flowers tumbling together with studied informality. The surrounding gilt brass frame is cast and hand-chased — the bow finial at the top is a three-dimensional sculptural element, not a stamped ornament, and the lower garland mount carries individually modelled rose and leaf forms. The brass finish is applied to achieve the warm, saturated gilt tone characteristic of French ormolu.
Dimensions & Details
Weight: 4 kg. The plate is sized for a prominent wall position — a focal point above a console, between two sconces, or centred on a salon wall. The decorative brass frame adds visual mass and projects the piece forward from the surface, giving it the dimensional presence of a framed work of art rather than a flat object.
Handcrafted in Egypt
Every plate in this series is produced in Egypt by Brass & Wood craftsmen working in the European classical tradition. The porcelain is hand-decorated and the brass frame is individually cast, chased, and finished. No two pieces are identical — variation in the painted bouquet and in the gilt tone are marks of authentic hand production, not defects. Customisation of brass finish is available on request.
