Materials & Craftsmanship

The porcelain body draws directly from the visual language of Sèvres bleu de roi — the intense, saturated cobalt that became the signature ground colour of Louis XVI's royal manufactory in the 1770s. Against this ground, gilded scrollwork arabesques and a fan-shell cartouche at the crown are applied with the controlled hand of a trained decorator. The central medallion is painted with a loose, naturalistic bouquet in the Dutch floral tradition favoured at Sèvres: roses, peonies, tulips, daffodils, and wild flowers tumbling together with studied informality. The surrounding gilt brass frame is cast and hand-chased — the bow finial at the top is a three-dimensional sculptural element, not a stamped ornament, and the lower garland mount carries individually modelled rose and leaf forms. The brass finish is applied to achieve the warm, saturated gilt tone characteristic of French ormolu.
